چکیده

We report the first record of parasitic larval tapeworms of the genus Spirometra (sparganum) in the frog Hypsiboas pulchellus. A total of 139 frogs were collected in Uruguay, and two of them presented a single sparganum (1.4%). One sparganum was found free into the coelomic cavity, and the other was located under the skin and in the coelomic cavity. The relevance of this finding in Uruguayan amphibians is discussed along with a review of available data.

Is the red spotted green frog Hypsiboas punctatus (Anura: Hylidae) selecting its preys? The importance of prey availability.

The study of the feeding ecology of amphibians is an old issue in herpetology. Notwithstanding, the lack of food resources data in many studies of amphibians feeding has lead to partial understanding of frog feeding strategies. In this study we evaluate the trophic selectivity of a red spotted green frog (Hypsiboas punctatus) population from a Middle Paraná River floodplain pond in Argentina, a...

Systematics of treefrogs of the Hypsiboas calcaratus and Hypsiboas fasciatus species complex (Anura, Hylidae) with the description of four new species

We review the systematics of the Hypsiboas calcaratus species complex, a group of widely distributed Amazonian hylid frogs. A comprehensive analysis of genetic, morphological, and bioacoustic datasets uncovered the existence of eleven candidate species, six of which are confirmed. Two of them correspond to Hypsiboas fasciatus and Hypsiboas calcaratus and the remaining four are new species that ...
